For those women and couples who suffer infertility problems, the development of assisted reproductive techniques has been a very promising technological advance. However, the treatments follow a protocol and are made up of a program divided into small periods in which one of the most anticipated moments is the beta wait.
The most used assisted reproduction techniques are artificial insemination and embryo transfer when it comes to in vitro fertilization. Both techniques have a final phase called beta-wait, which is the time that elapses from the time the patient undergoes any of the assisted reproduction treatments until the moment in which the results of a positive or negative pregnancy are obtained.
The beta wait usually lasts between 9 and 14 days, and it is a period of great hope, so it also generates excessive anxiety and worry. It is important to take the beta-wait process calmly and optimistically because when you wait, you also despair.
This does not mean that we should think that the process will go well to be positive, or badly if we are more down, because it is normal that uncertainty generates discomfort and this thought, far from reassuring, will make us more tense, therefore it is advisable perform pleasant tasks to be in optimal spirits and not 'dialogue' with worrying thoughts about it.
Facing this period with good spirits and humor will help to relax your thoughts and, unconsciously, will prepare you better for when it is time to know the results. Continuing with your daily activities is essential, since doing them will occupy your mind and you will put aside that anxiety that leads you to think about pregnancy symptoms or to count the days until you know the news.
Keep working, studying, socializing and eating healthy, but also pamper yourself, laugh, read a book or listen to music, do what makes you happy! Most importantly, clear your head and lean on your partner or your loved ones, you are in this together!
The pregnancy test is often thought to be accurate enough to detect a pregnancy, but there are numerous cases where the test has marked a false positive or the opposite. In order not to have this type of disappointment, the best and safest thing is to confirm the pregnancy through a blood test and a review by a gynecologist.
As for the beta wait, we will know if it is positive or negative by analyzing the value of its presence in the blood that is measured by the beta-HCG hormone. This hormone is essential for the maintenance and development of pregnancy.
Once fertilization begins, in the first 30 days of gestation the hormone-beta HCG should have a considerable increase in the presence of blood, otherwise it is possible that the treatment has not flowed correctly and you are dealing with an ectopic pregnancy , which occurs when the fertilized egg establishes itself outside the uterus.
If the treatment flows positively, we will see an increase in the presence of the beta-HCG hormone in the future mother's blood, and by the second month of pregnancy, when the hormone has reached its maximum level, the doctor will confirm the result with an analysis of blood. If this reflects a score greater than 100 IU / l the process has been successful, in case it reflects a number less than 5, the pregnancy will have to be ruled out.
All women have different metabolisms and ways of being, so each person will face this waiting process in a different way. In any case, it is important to keep in mind that following the guidelines of relaxation and optimism will help in the moment of the beta wait and keeping a busy mind, and at the same time clear, is essential so that the wait is less expensive.
Good luck to all of you in your betawaits!
