We have reached an important week, where you can certify that you will soon be a mother, since it coincides with the first absence of the period and you can confirm it through a test or pregnancy test. Your body is changing, but what about the life you have inside? How is the baby in your tummy in its week 4 of existence? I will explain the changes that occur in you, how your baby is, how is his development and growth and how to take care of yourself and your beloved son.
At week 4 the embryo or fetus, as it is called while in the gut, is similar to a bean or lentil grain. Imagine what a tiny little thing! It is approximately 0.36 to 1mm in size and will begin to develop its internal organs.
And a very important event will happen, as is implantation of the embryo on the wall of the uterus. At this moment you could see a small blood stain on your underwear, a product of the implantation itself, which sometimes worries us or confuses us, believing that the period has returned; but no, this is an announcement for your own baby, confirming that it is inside your gut.
At this moment it begins to have a three-dimensional cylindrical shape after the so-called folding of the embryonic disc, which forms the three layers or sheets of cells from which its organs will later develop. These layers are:
- Ectoderm: from where the nervous system will develop.
- Endoderm: for the gastrointestinal system, pancreas, liver and thyroid.
- Mesoderm: it will form bones, muscles and blood system.
This would be the beginning of a long journey that will lead to the formation of your beautiful baby. The implantation will also allow hormones to be secreted that will maintain the pregnancy and the amniotic cavity and the placenta will develop, but while it is developing, the gestational sac will be in charge of feeding the embryo.
At the end of week 4, a structure called the prechordal plate appears, which will form the baby's mouth.
Before confirming that the tenant is in his cave, you could feel tired, fatigued, very sleepy and nauseous or vomiting from time to time, which will seem strange if you have not yet confirmed that you are pregnant. And this will happen, especially in the morning hours as the body adapts to the arrival of your beautiful baby.
- You may feel some discomfort at the level of the belly that will make you think that your period will come and, as I mentioned earlier, you may have the presence of genital bleeding (pinkish, bright red or reddish brown) that stains your underwear and that coincides with the time of implantation of the baby to the wall of the uterus.
- You can also have a more fluid vaginal discharge and transparent.
- At the level of the breasts there may also be increased sensitivity.
- Increased urge to urinate.
- They can disturb some odors.
- And changes in your emotional state: more sensitive, more crybaby, more irritable, moody and all due to hormonal changes.
If you are still not sure or you are doubtful that in a few months you will be a mother, I recommend that you take the urine pregnancy test or the chorionic gonadotropin hormone blood test. If it turns out negative and you were looking for it, keep trying, it will come soon! If it is positive, I suggest you make an appointment with a gynecologist or obstetrician-gynecologist you trust so that you can start the pregnancy control and check-up of the tenant in his cave.
And while everything follows its normal course, you have to take care of yourself, that's why these are the tips that I offer you for these first weeks.
1. Start taking care of your eating habits. Eat healthy, balanced and frequent (three meals and two snacks), with plenty of legumes, vegetables and fruits, especially those containing iron and folic acid, for your good health and that of the new tenant.
2. Control your weight. It is important to take quality proteins and carbohydrates in adequate portions. This will avoid being overweight during pregnancy that can lead to alterations or pathologies for both you and your baby: gestational diabetes, hypertension, pre-eclampsia or eclampsia or malnutrition of the baby in utero.
3. Avoid using drugs, alcohol or cigarettes. If your partner smokes, it is preferable that they also quit this habit. Sticking with it can have unintended consequences: miscarriages, premature births, fetal death, sudden death syndrome in the newborn and other pathologies.
4. The coffee, preferably 2 cups in the morning, and also reduce the consumption of tea, soft drinks or chocolate, due to the caffeine content that alters the nervous system, both yours and your child.
5. Stay active, exercises, walks, as long as they are recommended by your gynecologist.
6. Before taking any medication or doing anything that puts your baby's health or well-being in doubt, check with your doctor.
