Having more time in summer, away from daily obligations, and disposition towards leisure, makes it an ideal time to recover or strengthen good habits. In this case I am referring to the fact that summer is a good time to introduce children to the exciting world of reading.
Children are less tired and more willing to do anything, so we can take advantage of all the free time they have to try some tricks that will help us encourage children to read.
We give you 5 tips for your children to read in summer.
Reading is essential, along with math it is one of the instrumental subjects in our educational system, and a good enhancer of our left hemisphere of the brain.
The reading habit is generated by repetition and training, like almost everything in life. Therefore, the sooner the reading habit is acquired in children, the better. The more you read, the more you enjoy.
Most teachers and pedagogues, they observe that many of the problems that children face, as they pass school years, are problems derived from reading (such as lack of comprehension, spelling mistakes, vocabulary problems, or oral expression problems, or lack of imagination or creativity, etc ..).
Parents should be the main promoters of reading of your children and for this I propose these 5 tips for your children to read in summer.
1- We must always have books at home and within reach of their hands, with the aim that they encourage children to pick them up, see them and read them. The more books the better.
2- If you want your child to read, preach with the exampleor. It is important that children see you read, as they often act out of imitation. Families should dedicate part of their time to reading together, that is, each member of the family reading their book, as is done with television programs of family interest.
3- Share readings with your children, the fact of reading the same books makes you able to talk about it, what they thought, what they felt if they liked it, etc ... and this ultimately generates a very interesting link between the two. You can start from a young age when you read them stories at night, at the end ask their opinion on the subject, and give yours to be able to have a conversation with them.
4- For the little ones, who still cannot read letters, they must perform iconic reading, reading images. You can start with some books that tell stories with only illustrations, or with pictogram books (those that substitute words for pictures), and so be the one who tells you the story that appears in the pictures.
5- Do not lose the good habit of telling them a I count before going to sleepeven if they already know how to read.
